Excel Online では複数ユーザーによる同時編集が可能ですが、デスクトップ版の Excel ではこれができませんでした。しかし、ようやくこれが対応するとのこと。

Today, we’re enabling co-authoring in Excel on Windows desktops, for Office 365 subscribers in the Fast level of the Office Insider program. This means you can work at the same time with others in any shared cloud document without missing a beat. No more locks on Excel files! 

Office 365 のサブスクライバーでかつ Office Insider プログラムのファストレベルをオプトインしていることが前提で、16.0.8017.1000以降のExcel 2016 バージョンになっている必要があります。

Excel ファイルは次の場所に格納されていれば、同時編集がサポートされます。

• SharePoint Online
• OneDrive
• OneDrive for Business

ちなみに、現在同時編集可能な Excel は次の通り。

•  Excel Online
• Excel on Andoriod (ver 7830.1012 以降), Windows Mobile (7830.1013以降)、iOS (for Office Insiders) 

Excel on Mac も現時点では対応していませんが、作業中であるということです。

これが利用できるようになると作業が本当にはかどります。Excel Online では反応が遅かったり、サポートされない機能も結構多いので。
